Organizations Worth Joining & Following in Trust and Safety Domains


 

  • Trust & Safety Professional Association (TSPA) – Dedicated to helping T&S professionals share knowledge and opportunities, the TSPA is a center of gravity for the industry and acts as the main rallying point for thousands of T&Sers around the world.
  • All Tech Is Human (ATIH) – All Tech Is Human is a massive online and IRL community offering job boards, events with notable speakers, resources for professionals, and so much more. Worth joining for the highly engaging Slack community!
  • Integrity Institute – Integrity Institute is a strong community of T&S-focused people as well as a think tank creating resources and research. The organization welcomes applicants with at least 6 months of professional integrity experience.
  • Center for Humane Technolog (CHT) – The Center for Humane Technology is dedicated to leading a comprehensive shift toward technology that strengthens our well-being, global democratic functioning, and shared information environment.  
  • INHOPE – The organization is a global network of 54 member hotlines. INHOPE’s mission is to support and enable INHOPE hotlines in the rapid identification and removal of Child Sexual Abuse Material from the digital world.
  • Institute for Rebooting Social Media – The Institute is a three-year research initiative addressing social media’s most urgent problems, including misinformation, privacy breaches, harassment, and content governance. By working with academia, industry, and the public, we hope to promote and create healthier online ecosystems.
  • Berkman Klein Center – The Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society is a research center at Harvard University that focuses on the study of cyberspace. Founded at Harvard Law School, the center traditionally focused on internet-related legal issues.
  • Trust & Safety Network – We may be biased as we created the Trust & Safety Starter Kit, but felt like it should be included as a new kid on the block. The Trust & Safety Network (TSN) is the online hub dedicated to equipping individuals and organizations with the knowledge, skills, and support needed to learn, grow, and succeed in the T&S industry.
  • NCMEC – The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation whose mission is to help find missing children, reduce child sexual exploitation, and prevent child victimization. NCMEC works with families, victims, private industry, law enforcement, and the public to assist with preventing child abductions, recovering missing children, and providing services to deter and combat child sexual exploitation.
  • GIFCT – The Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism brings together the technology industry, government, civil society, and academia to foster collaboration and information-sharing to counter terrorist and violent extremist activity online. 
  • Trust and Safety Tooling Consortium – The Consortium is a new research effort to map the state of the art with respect to open-source tooling and identify concrete pathways towards open, sustainable, interoperable, and scalable tools. The Consortium will be housed at the Institute of Global Politics (IGP) with SIPA’s growing Trust and Safety program.
  • Center for Democracy & Technology – The Center for Democracy & Technology is a 501(c)(3) working to promote democratic values by shaping technology policy and architecture, with a focus on the rights of the individual. CDT supports laws, corporate policies, and technological tools that protect privacy and security and enable free speech online.
  • Digital Forensic Research Lab – The Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab (DFRLab) has operationalized the study of disinformation by exposing falsehoods and fake news, documenting human rights abuses, and building digital resilience worldwide.
  • National Cyber Security Alliance – This non-profit is on a mission to create a more secure, interconnected world. They advocate for the safe use of all technology and educate everyone on how best to protect ourselves, our families, and our organizations from cybercrime. They create strong partnerships between governments and corporations to amplify our message and to foster a greater “digital” good.
